Every handy person has a can of WD-40 somewhere near their toolbox (if you don’t, you should!), and after watching this video, it’s easy to see why. It’s some interesting stuff, and it’s got a storied past.

Bits of its history include a military origin (it was invented to prevent missile corrosion), and there are claims that it gets the number “40” from being the fortieth attempt at the formula. I’ll tell you one thing though — when Norm Larsen developed the formula back in 1953, it’s doubtful he saw it being used like this.
