That menacing green vegetable kids love to hate just got a cheesy pizza makeover.

Daphne Oz, New York Times best-selling author and co-host on ABC’s hit lifestyle series, “The Chew,” shared one of her favorite quick-and-easy recipes for the whole family, on the “Rachael Ray Show” in April 2013.

“You can trick your kids, which is kind of nice,” joked Oz about her recipe for Cheesy Pizza Broccoli.

To make Cheesy Pizza Broccoli, begin by steaming broccoli either as a whole head or in bite-size florets. Both Ray and Oz offer the option to modify the recipe by substituting cauliflower or any other cruciferous vegetable such as Brussels sprouts or bok choy.

Once the vegetable is soft enough that you can easily insert a knife into its center (5 minutes for florets or 20 minutes for the entire head), drain the broccoli and place it in a baking dish.

Preheat the broiler. While waiting for the broiler to heat, drizzle the broccoli with olive oil and sprinkle it with cheese. Oz recommends Pecorino or any other hard, salty cheese. Add a good shake of oregano to bump up the pizza flavor, and if your kids like a bit of spice, add some chili flakes.

Broil the broccoli for just 2 to 3 minutes, until the cheese is golden brown. Finish with a squeeze of lemon juice, a bit of salt and pepper, and there you have it: Cheesy Pizza Broccoli.
