Gavin Brett documented this encounter while touring Kruger National Park with fellow tourists. Among the buffalo herd, a group of lions targeted one of the calves. In a display of remarkable bravery and maternal instinct, the mother buffalo valiantly intervened to shield her offspring.
Although the cub managed to escape the clutches of the lions, tragically, the mother fell victim to their predation. This serves as undeniable evidence of the profound and extraordinary maternal love exhibited by wild animals towards their young.
