Couple Kristi Warriner and Justin Nelson got married Tuesday November 11 next to their infant son JJ, who was receiving treatment at Cook Children’s Medical Center. JJ was in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. JJ’s twin brother had passed tragically in his mother’s womb earlier. JJ, having been born 1 pound and 13 ounces with chronic lung problems on September 2nd, had to keep fighting his way through survival this past month.
Given JJ’s condition, the engaged couple would have needed to wait several weeks for a traditional wedding outside of the hospital. Consequently, they decided to have their special wedding right next to JJ in the hospital.
ou might wonder why the couple is broadcasting their story so publicly. Warriner tells news outlets, “Our mission behind all this was to hopefully let others [know] that have been there, are there, or unfortunately one day could be in a similar situation as ours, and let them know they are not alone.” Losing a child is something no parent should go through. Here at SF Globe, we applaud Kristi and Justin’s bravery in sharing their story.
