This is the heartbreaking moment a devoted dog said her final goodbye to her dying owner in a California, US, hospital.

Ryan Jessen thought he had a migraine, but was hospitalized with a ventricular brain haemorrhage and tragically did not recover. His loved ones gathered around his hospital bed to say their final goodbyes on November 30th.

And hospital staff even agreed to let Ryan’s beloved boxer dog, Mollie, say her goodbyes, too.

Ryan’s sister, Michelle, shared the emotional moment on Facebook, where it captured the hearts of thousands.

“The hospital did the sweetest thing for us and allowed us to bring my brother’s dog in to ‘say goodbye’, so she’d know why her human never came home,” she wrote.

“If you knew my brother, he really loved his sweet dog,” she added.

With her tail between her legs, clearly aware something was wrong, Millie is seen desperately sniffing Ryan when she is lifted onto his hospital bed.

The video of the heartbreaking farewell has been seen more than 8 million times and shared by over 80,000 people.

“Thank you to everybody for the outpouring of support,” wrote Michelle of the response to the video, “We are sincerely touched and humbled by others’ stories, their sharing in our sadness, and the kindness of so many people.”
