For many it’s difficult to imagine being in the shoes of a someone with severe depression or anorexia. Unless you’ve been there yourself, you really don’t know what it’s like. That’s when the power of words becomes more important than ever.

Those who haven’t been there have a tendency to oversimplify the conditions of others. They say things, and use generalizations that are hurtful at best. At worst these comments become triggers, and perpetuate the cycle of harm.
