When Fort Bend County Animal Control found a Labrador retriever named Devon on a road in Texas in April, she was in a devastating condition. The dog had been dragged behind a car and shot. Now, months later, the pooch has found a loving home in Georgia.

“She’s a remarkable dog. She had a tremendous spirit, even when she came in,” Fort Bend’s Barbara Vass told Houston’s Fox 29 news. “The first pictures I took of her in her kennel, when she wasn’t in her best shape, she was still wagging her tail.”

Like a dog named Mufasa saved from an area full of chemicals and a pooch named Cora rescued after being chained in a backyard, Devon also has a happy ending.

Several organizations and people — Saving Our Companion Animals, Save-A-Lab Rescue, Long Meadow Vet Clinic, and her foster — came together to help Devon recover and find a forever home with Cindy Bilbo in Atlanta.

“After months of recovering, she was flown to her new home today by the organization Pilots & Paws, a group of volunteer pilots who help transport rescue animals all over the U.S.,” Fort Bend County Animal Control wrote on Facebook on July 7. “It really does take an army to save a life!”
