Diagnosed with terminal colon cancer in 2012, Simpsons co-creator Sam Simon has revealed that he’s giving away his fortune — valued at $100 million – to animals and those in need. In an interview with NBC News, Simon revealed that his family is already financial well off, so he’s donating the money to a number of charities, including PETA and the Sam Simon Foundation — aimed at protecting the well-being of canines.

“A lot of it’s selfish. I get to watch these animals that have been in concrete bunkers their whole life. I get to watch them take their first steps on grass,” Simon, 59, said.

“I think that my passion for the animals and against animal abuse is based on the knowledge that these creatures who feel and think can’t speak for themselves and they’re dependent on us for that. And so I feel it’s my responsibility to speak for those that can’t speak for themselves.”

The nine-time Emmy-winner is also dedicated to making sure that his money is spent on other charitable causes like his Feeding Families program, which he says provides meals to 400 families every day. How inspiring!
