Australian mother Nikita Friedman left a popular department store shocked and angry after discovering nothing but “skimpy” shorts when trying to shop for her 1-year-old daughter.

Concerned that the shorts were turning young girls into “sex objects”, Friedman shared a photo to Facebook showing the major difference between a boys’ size 1 and a girls’ size 1.

“I couldn’t find a single pair of shorts in the girls section today with an inseam of more than a couple of [centimeters],” the frustrated mom wrote in her post. “Where is the variety and choice for parents looking to teach their children about sun safety and self respect?”

Friedman said that she was forced to take her business elsewhere, and while she wasn’t “crying into her pillow” about the issue, she believes that the department store has a right to know why she made that choice that she did.

Friedman’s post has garnered some major social media attention, mainly from parents who have encountered the same shopping issues for their young daughters. While some couldn’t any major cause for concern, a few admitted to purchasing boys’ shorts instead, and claimed that the shopping choices get worse with age.

Big W, the department store under attack, responded to Friedman’s post, telling Mashable Australia that it “undertakes a rigorous buying process to ensure we stock a wide range of children’s apparel to suit a variety of customer needs and tastes…Big W welcomes customer feedback.” A spokesperson for the store added that they will respond to Friedman directly regarding the issue.

While it appears that the mother has deleted her Facebook page, many parents are still taking to Big W’s page to support her initial post.

What do you think about Nikita’s post? Do you think the shorts are too small?

Share the love, pass it on.
