Many parents will use a car seat for their child each time they are in the car, but not every parent has this seat installed correctly. It is not enough to simply have the car seat rear facing, but having it level and properly strapped in is equally as important.
A mom in Tacoma, Washington is now stressing the importance of proper car seat installation after suffering a scary accident with her two young boys.
Kylee Barrett was taking her 5 year old Kolton to school with her 2-year-old Hunter strapped into his car seat in the back seat.
Her car hit a patch of black ice, causing the car to slide quickly. To avoiding colliding with another car, Kylee swerved and hit a tree that crushed little Hunter’s side of the car.
Hunter’s rear facing seat had been properly installed, and Kylee showed just how much that had saved his life with these photos of the intense damage done to her vehicle.

Little Hunter may have suffered from a broken femur and a few bruises and scrapes, but Kylee admits that she realizes how much worse things would have been for him had his car seat not bee properly installed.

“This specific seat retails for $100. It’s NOT a ‘nice’ seat,” she admits on her Facebook but it further illustrates the point that you don’t have to spend a fortune to keep your child safe. Get your car seats checked by a CPST. Use it properly Every. Single. Time. The life of your child relies on it.”

Kylee now shares the photos of their accident in hopes that it will inspire other parents to double check their child’s car seat and ensure that their children can arrive safely at their destinations.
