Pemba is a small, remote island that lies off the coast of Eastern Africa. The 380 sq. mile piece of land is run by the Manta family and features one of the most breathtaking resorts around the globe. The green, hilly island is covered with lush forests and fields of fruit and other crops. It’s a place of serenity and peace, surrounded by calm waters. Temperatures are ideal here, with an annual average of 86 degrees Fahrenheit and an abundance of rain to keep the ground fertile. The stable temperatures are a result of the island lying so close to the equator.

The Pemba Island resort is simply majestic, with beachside dining for every meal consisting of fresh fish caught on that very day. Vacationers can spend their day on the sand or in the water, and can master the basics of scuba diving in the resort’s pool before facing the open waters. The resort was founded in 2007 after the Swedish company Kwanini realized that it was the perfect place for their underwater hotel concept. The company works closely with the government to tend to the island and its surrounding waters, “It’s a unique island and we tend to keep it that way, yet show off her beauty to the lucky few that find her.”

The video below shows off perhaps the most unique feature of this beautiful resort – the floating hotel. Above water it appears to be one room, with a table for dining and some chairs to lounge on. But once you climb aboard you’ll find a set of stairs that lead you to something magical. Check it out and let us know what you thought about it. Can you think of a better place to stay?
