Last Sunday, a passenger on WestJet flight 463 decided to leave a little note in his 12E seat for the pilot of the aircraft. He noticed the pilot was a woman and simply had to say something to her. It wasn’t a note of admiration, though. It was a rude little scribble dripping with sexism and judgment.

Carey Steacy has been a pilot for 17 years and currently works for WestJet. She was shocked to see his little letter, but her response was amazing.

This is a transcript of what “David” wrote:

To Captain/WestJet,

The cockpit of airliner is no place for a woman. A woman being a mother is the most honor. Not as “captain.” We’re short mothers, not pilots, WestJet.

Proverbs 31

(Sorry not P.C.)

PS I wish WestJet could tell me a fair lady is at the helm so I can book another flight!

In the end this is all mere vanity…

Not impressed.

Respectfully in love,

David (or possibly Daniel)

Carey was shocked to read such a rude and completely sexist note. So, in response, she posted this to Facebook.

To @David in 12E on my flight #463 from Calgary to Victoria today.

It was my pleasure flying you safely to your destination. Thank you for the note you discreetly left me on your seat. You made sure to ask the flight attendants before we left if I had enough hours to be the Captain so safety is important to you, too.

I respectfully disagree with your opinion that the “cockpit” (we now call it the flight deck as no c**** are required) is no place for a lady. In fact, there are no places that are not for ladies anymore.

I have heard many comments from people throughout my 17 year career as a pilot. Most of them positive. Your note is, without a doubt, the funniest. It was a joke, right? RIGHT?? I thought, not.

You were more than welcome to deplane when you heard I was a “fair lady.” You have that right. Funny, we all, as humans, have the same rights in this great free country of ours.

Now, back to my most important role, being a mother.

Game, set, match. The cockpit is no place for a woman? Well, this world is no place for sexism and judgment. Having different beliefs isn’t a crime, but attacking an innocent just trying to do their job is no way to behave.

Way to go, Carey!
