It’s rare that a commercial comes along that pulls at your heartstrings and stays with you for the rest of the day, but that’s exactly the reaction this new commercial got out of me.
In a spot entitled “Mop Dog,” by ad agency Deutsch LA, Dr. Pepper says, “Be true to yourself and you’ll never be lost…”
We meet Mop Dog, who is shunned by the world. Mop Dog is a Puli — a Hungarian breed that develops natural dread locks or “cords” giving it a distinct, comical appearance — who roams around in search of a home. He lives on cardboard with nowhere to go, and no one to turn to. Even he thinks he’s a mop!
But on this particular day, the pup gets a brand new lease on life, and an unlikely forever friend — a Dr. Pepper truck driver — who finally accepts him. By the end of the commercial, I was bawling like a baby.
