With spring just days away, I am itching to strip off my winter layers and go romping in the great outdoors!

This winter was brutal — so brutal, in fact, many of us had to get very creative to deal with it — and I can’t wait to finally thaw out!

One of my favorite springtime activities is camping. The weather is cool and mild, the bugs aren’t yet swarming, and the sun is a welcome friend to winter-pale skin.

But when I can’t make it out to a campsite, the next best thing is a backyard fire pit. Roast some marshmallows, watch the fireflies dance, look at the stars — it’s the perfect way to spend a spring night.

And, thanks to the amazing tutorial below, making a fire pit just got much easier — and very, verycheap! With just an old grill and some concrete tree rings, your backyard can be completely transformed in a matter of one afternoon!

After looking through these great step-by-step photos, be sure to watch the awesome video below. It’s sure to bring your family a lot of fun this spring and summer!

First, he purchased 4 sections of 14″ tree rings, and 6 sections of 24″ tree rings.

The fire pit will be formed by stacking the tree rings like so. The fluted sections don’t interlock perfectly, but the spaces between the rings won’t affect the pit’s form.

After finding a level spot of land, he sprayed some weed killer and laid out a weed barrier cloth. He then started assembling his pit.

On top of this pile of rocks, he began to assemble his smaller inner circle. Once it was complete, he poured more rocks between the inner and outer circles.
