On average, more than 100 million trees are destroyed each year in order to create junk mail, according to 41 Pounds. The average adult receives roughly 41 pounds of junk mail a year, throwing about half of it away without even opening it. As a result, about 40 percent of the solid mass that makes up our landfills consists of paper products. Clearly the excessive amount of junk mail sent on a given day is a problem that can have serious repercussions, especially for future generations. Stopping all junk mail is the ideal solution, but not the most feasible.

Instead of adding to the overflow in landfills across the country, there are alternatives to dealing with all those paper products. In the video below, uploaded by Tiny House Listings, the man goes over a clever way to deal with all that paper. To start, he drills holes in a bucket. Then he stuffs the bucket full of paper and fills it up with water. You’ll have to watch to see what comes next. While the process is a bit arduous and involved, the end result is pretty spectacular. Check it out and be sure to let us know what you thought. Also, make sure to share the video on Facebook if you found it as interesting as we did!
