This video shows how quickly a peaceful living room can be engulfed in flames. This video was created by the Fire Kills Campaign to illustrate a simple point: it only takes one minute for disaster to strike. Having a Christmas tree is a lovely tradition, but many people of unaware the dangers that are associated with having a tree covered in lights inside your home.

The National Fire Prevention Association recommends making sure the lights you place on your tree are in proper working order before you leave them on. Also, never leave your lights on overnight or when you’re away from home. Finally, make sure your tree is watered everyday. A dry tree is much more likely to cause a house fire than a tree that is properly watered.

There’s no reason to give up your Christmas traditions, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
