George Takei needed assistance from his husband, Brad Takei, while walking during a rare public outing in Los Angeles last Thursday.

The 88-year-old “Star Trek” actor was photographed using a cane and holding firmly onto his longtime partner’s hand in images obtained by Page Six.

For the casual outdoor stroll, George wore a navy blue puffer jacket layered over a white zip-up sweatshirt, paired with gray sweatpants.

Brad, 72, opted for a more polished look, wearing a beige blazer and a purple button-down shirt tucked into blue trousers.

Takei married former financial journalist Brad Altman in 2008, though the couple has been together since 1985.

In 2024, the actor spoke about the key to their long-lasting relationship, saying their dynamic works because they share a full range of emotions together, including humor and occasional disagreements, which he believes keeps their bond strong.

George has also described the pair as “opposites,” noting that Brad Altman is “a strict disciplinarian.”

“Brad is detail-oriented, he’s organized and he brings that detail and organization to my life so that I can do what I do,” the “Heroes” alum shared.

Although the couple had been together for nearly two decades by that point, George did not come out as gay until 2005. Reflecting on that decision in a later interview with USA Today, he said, “It feels very liberating,” adding that he no longer had to “be on my guard” or carefully filter his words to conceal his identity.

George, pictured above with Brad in New York City in 2022, also reflected on how their relationship works despite their differences, describing the couple as “opposites.”

He said, “I developed that skill, but now I don’t need to. I can be candid and forthright.”

George also admitted that, prior to coming out, he did not feel able to be his “whole self.”

“Here I am protecting my job, my career, what I want to do, while others who had the same difference that I did were sacrificing all that and actively engaging with the larger society and making progress,” he told the outlet.

George, seen above with Brad in May 2025, previously shared that his husband was insistent on taking the Takei surname.

Brad has long supported George and his career throughout their relationship.

In fact, he legally changed his last name from Altman to Takei in 2013.

“I argued with him on that,” George recalled in a past interview with Access Hollywood.

George said he had suggested the couple hyphenate their surnames, but Brad responded, “I feel Takei.”
