This is the horrifying moment a driver shot a 23-month-old girl in the head during a road rage incident.
The shooter, identified as pick-up truck driver Alex de Oliveira Nunes, had just pulled over to let a family sedan pass when it honked to signal him to move.
However, grim CCTV footage filmed in Areia Branca, Sergipe, Brazil, on June 24 shows the 28-year-old Nunes then began tailgating the small hatchback.
As the truck pulls closer, a hand holding a pistol appears from the driver’s window and fires twice at the car ahead.
Terrified, the hatchback driver tries to escape but is pursued by Nunes’ pick-up truck as the footage ends.
Toddler Layla Sofia Santos Menezes was tragically struck in the head and died instantly, police told local media.
Nunes reportedly fled the scene and was arrested hours later at his home.
He, who was intoxicated at the time, later told police he fired the shots to ‘scare’ the other driver.

Nunes is being held in custody while police investigate the incident.
Police spokesperson Miguel Maximino said Nunes holds neither a gun license nor a driving license.
Maximino added, “He says he was intoxicated and didn’t know who was in the other vehicle.”
Nunes is currently in custody while police investigate the incident.
He reportedly told officers that he purchased the gun from another truck driver two years ago.
The child’s family told local media they were less than 100 meters (330 feet) from their home when the tragedy occurred.
Valéria dos Santos, the child’s mother, said, “We stopped next to a church. I got out with her in my arms asking for help; she was already struggling to breathe.”
She was laid to rest on June 25 in Povoado Rio das Pedras, Itabaiana.
