Indie rock icons Weezer surprised crowds in Venice Beach on Friday with an unexpected rooftop performance.
The acoustic pop-up show attracted hundreds of fans outside Hinano Cafe, where the band performed a string of fan favorites to celebrate their newly announced tour, “The Gathering.”
They energized the audience with some of their biggest hits — including Buddy Holly, Say It Ain’t So, and Undone – The Sweater Song — and were joined onstage by Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast.

Weezer staged the surprise set to launch “Weezer: The Gathering – Initiation Week.”
The performance marked the start of a run of pop-up events taking place across Los Angeles. The band’s nationwide tour is scheduled to begin on September 8 in Sacramento, according to Rolling Stone.
Fans hoping to attend “Initiation Week” can RSVP, though entry is not guaranteed.
Planned events for the week include a pinball competition and a pickleball tournament.
