Jeff Bezos’ mother, Jacklyn Gise Bezos, passed away Thursday at the age of 78 after a long battle with Lewy body dementia, the Amazon founder announced.
She was surrounded by family at her Miami home, her son shared in a heartfelt Instagram tribute.
“Her adulthood began early when she became my mom at just 17,” the 61-year-old billionaire wrote in the post.
“‘We are not just building brains — we are building the future. Each of us has a role to play, and it will take all of us to truly make a difference,’ she said.
The devoted mother was also a founding member of the Bezos Family Foundation, which is dedicated to helping ‘young people reach their full potential and meaningfully contribute to society.’”
Jacklyn Bezos is survived by her husband, Mike; her children, Jeff, Christina, and Mark; eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family requested that those wishing to honor her memory support a nonprofit of their choice or perform a simple act of kindness.
