I love houses that are full of surprises — like this home that’scustomized for cat owners.
Homes should be as unique as their owners. I know people who have added movie rooms, recording studios, lap pools and even a karaoke room to their houses. But this might be the most compelling home-improvement I’ve seen in a while.
So why would someone put a window into the floor of their kitchen? Where could this mysterious floor door possibly lead?
It almost reminds me of some old scary movie or Scooby Doo cartoon where a mansion is full of hidden doors and passageways. I don’t think the Winchester Mystery House, which is known for its doors to nowhere and secret stairwells, even has a spooky window to a hidden chamber in the floor.
Barbra Streisand has a mall underneath her house, but I don’t think she has something like this.
Scroll down for some fun and surprising images that will explain how having a window in the middle of your kitchen floor might actually be one of the best ideas you’ve heard in a long time.

At first glance, it seems like a mistake. Maybe the builders read the blueprints wrong? Why else would there be a window in the floor?
However, a closer inspection reveals a path to a whole other room!
The door opens to stairs leading down to an unforgettable wine cellar!
This is actually a new home design trend that’s happening more and more frequently. How convenient is it to have your wine cellar so close to the kitchen?
And it definitely adds some character to the space.
If I ever have the opportunity to build a dream home, I’m definitely going to consider a wine cellar like this.
You can choose to keep your wine cellar door a little more hidden by getting rid of the glass and hiding it beneath some normal floorboards.
Or you can choose to make it the focal point of the room.
Even if you’re not a wine drinker, the additional cellar space is ideal for extra storage, or even as a bomb shelter.
These cellars can cost as much as $30,000. They may not fit everyone’s budget, but if you can afford one… why not?!
