Nicole Kidman’s seemingly idyllic life today conceals a tumultuous past. Her journey in the world of acting commenced with an Australian miniseries called “Vietnam.” Just two years later, she secured a role in “Dead Calm,” capturing the attention of many, including Tom Cruise. Kidman’s initial brush with fame came when she tied the knot with the renowned actor, who had recently divorced Mimi Rogers, earning her the moniker “Mrs. Tom Cruise” at the tender age of 23.
Despite her deep desire to start a family, Kidman faced heartbreak at the outset of her marriage with an ectopic pregnancy. Tragedy struck again with a miscarriage toward the end of her union with Cruise, revealing her inability to conceive.
Nevertheless, Kidman persisted in her marriage, believing it to be perfect. Her career also flourished during this period, beginning with roles in “To Die For” and “The Portrait of a Lady.” Shortly thereafter, she starred alongside her then-husband in “Eyes Wide Shut.”
Kidman’s existence remained ensconced in a cocoon of joy alongside Cruise and their adopted children, Isabella and Connor. However, this felicity was destined to be short-lived. Just two months past their 10th wedding anniversary, Cruise broached the subject of separation, eventually filing for divorce, citing work-related issues as the cause. Kidman was left utterly shattered. In 2001, the couple’s marriage officially dissolved, and the actress carried the weight of her anguish until she encountered and wed Keith Urban, with whom she consistently credited for her healing.
On June 25, 2023, Kidman celebrated her 17th wedding anniversary with Urban with a photo she posted on Instagram. Continue reading to find out what she said.
Kidman’s divorce from Cruise was an incredibly challenging experience for her. She shared with DUJOUR magazine, “The process of healing took me an extended period, and it truly shook me to my core.”
However, she buried herself in her work and continued to receive critical acclaim for her outstanding performances. Kidman appeared in “The Hours” around this time as the suicidal Virginia Woolf and won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for her impressive performance. Despite Kidman’s success, she felt something was missing.
“I realized I didn’t want to be alone. I wanted to fall in love again, but I wasn’t sure I could,” she told DUJOUR.
In 2005, she met musician Urban at an event for Australians in Los Angeles and was instantly smitten. However, it took a while for the singer to reach out. Kidman and Urban tied the knot in June 2006, and the actress got a huge surprise soon after that. At 40, she became pregnant with their first child, and in July 2008, they welcomed their daughter, Sunday Rose.
“It took me so long to have a child. I feel enormous gratitude. Sunday has healed an enormous amount in me,” she said after the birth.
The couple had another daughter, Faith Margaret, in 2011 through surrogacy. For Nicole, her life and marriage to Urban couldn’t be more perfect. The duo has been outspoken about supporting each other. And for the actress, having an artistic husband helps ease some of the pressure from work.
“I’ve got a good husband who is really, really good to talk to. He’s artistic, so he gets it. I’m not coming home to someone who just doesn’t understand. And he’s a good buffer,” she told Tatler in 2018.
Seventeen years after their initial vows, Kidman and Urban’s love story continues to thrive. The mother of four marked their enduring union with an Instagram post on June 25, 2023, sharing a black and white photograph of the couple embracing closely.
She accompanied the tender image with the caption, “Happy Anniversary, my love.”
The photo quickly garnered lots of likes and comments from fans who wished the couple a happy time together.
“Two very lucky people to of found each other. You are loved by so many,” a fan commented on the media personality’s page. A second follower expressed, “So happy that you 2 found each other. .”
A third fan wished that they would stay together forever.
“Happy anniversary you lil love birds, wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness,” they wrote.
Days before their anniversary, Kidman also celebrated her spouse on June 18, 2023, for Father’s Day with a photo of him on a tiny tricycle with one of their kids on Instagram.
“Happy Father’s Day to the coolest dad there is! You are so loved by all of us! Your girls,” she captioned the snap.
Many of the family’s fans also wished the musician Happy Father’s Day, while some shared how much they love him. Another fan thought he was cool.
“Def the coolest dad – just don’t tell. John,” they wrote.
For the “Moulin Rouge” star, she lives a fulfilled life. Asked if her life contained everything now, she answered:
“Oh, yes! And it’s my life. Before, I was running away from life. Now I embrace it. You never know how long you have. So I cherish every minute.”
The star even revealed she looks after herself so she can be around for her kids. She told Tatler:
“I want to stay healthy and vibrant, I want to be able to take care of them … That’s a big part of it when you have children when you’re older.”
