A Bronx hospital patient was fatally attacked by her roommate, who has a documented history of violent behavior, according to her grieving family.
Cynthia Vann, 55, was sleeping in her room at Lincoln Hospital in Mott Haven when the assault occurred, leaving her in critical condition and requiring emergency surgery on September 10, News 12 reported.
At the time of the attack, Vann was receiving treatment for liver-related issues at the Bronx medical center.
Cynthia Vann died on September 27, 2025, two weeks after being attacked by her roommate inside a Bronx hospital. She sustained head injuries and remained at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln before succumbing to her wounds.
“It’s heartbreaking. I’m broken inside. It’s very difficult. My mom was my support system. She was really all I had,” Vann’s daughter, Taneisha Vann, told News 12.
“She didn’t deserve this. No one deserves to be assaulted at a hospital while you’re sleeping. You’re supposed to feel safe,” she added.
According to the medical examiner’s office, Vann died from blunt force trauma to the head, and her death has been ruled a homicide.
