Despite winning three Super Bowl rings, Patrick Mahomes isn’t immune to criticism.
Kansas City radio and podcast host Kevin Kietzman launched a harsh rant on Monday after Fourth of July photos of Mahomes went viral, showing the quarterback enjoying a yacht trip with friends — but also revealing what Kietzman called a “dad bod.”
“Vacation photos are popping up of Patrick Mahomes, and he’s fat,” Kietzman declared on his podcast, Kevin Kietzman Has Issues.
“I’m gonna say it, and I’m gonna tell you the truth — that’s why you hit the play button. He’s an embarrassment.”
Patrick Mahomes Celebrates Fourth of July with Friends
Mahomes is coming off what might be the most disappointing performance of his career, throwing two interceptions in a 40-22 blowout loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX this past February.
While Mahomes threw for three touchdowns, most of his production came with the game already out of reach, after the Eagles surged to a 24-0 lead by halftime.
“You’re a $500 million quarterback. You made all those offseason comments like, ‘We’re gonna do our talking on the field, we got our butts kicked in the Super Bowl, we’re coming back with a vengeance,’” said Kietzman, who covers both sports and politics on his shows.
“Dude, you’re fat. Your belly would be considered fat at my pool hanging out with us 60-year-olds. My skin’s flabbier than yours—I get it. But stop. Stop the fast food. Do a sit-up. Do something.”
While 29-year-old Mahomes doesn’t have a body carved from stone, that hasn’t stopped him from forging a Hall of Fame-worthy career.
He’s been one of the NFL’s most prolific passers, boasting three Super Bowl titles, two MVP awards, and over 32,000 passing yards.
“Yeah, I’m sure he’s worked out, strengthened his arm, and done all kinds of quarterback stuff, but there’s no real training here. I don’t get it,” Kietzman said. “He’s not a kid anymore—you can’t just run through your NFL career eating Taco Bell and Door Dashing fried chicken like he loves. It’s time, dude. It’s time.
“Going to camp and getting in shape is like 1970s baseball—nobody does that anymore. That’s not how the highest level works. I only say this because I love the guy. He’s an enormous talent. But I can’t stand seeing someone sit back on their talent instead of being the best version of themselves.”
This isn’t the first time Mahomes’ physique has sparked headlines.
Patrick Mahomes Spotted at Summer Practice
The quarterback first responded to the “dad bod” chatter back in January 2024, after “Inside the NFL” featured his shirtless victory speech following Kansas City’s AFC Championship win over Baltimore.
“Yoooo why they have to do me like that!?!?!? #DadBodSZN,” Mahomes posted on X.
Mahomes’ trainer, Bobby Stroupe, later fired back at Kietzman on social media in posts that have since been deleted, according to The Sun.
“You obviously need attention,” Stroupe said.
“If you want to see what being in shape really looks like—go make it through a practice at Saint Jo or run a hurry-up offense scrambling back to back to back plays. You have no idea what it takes. It’s not about looks, it’s about performance.”
Mahomes is currently gearing up for his ninth NFL season.
