Subsequently, a missing persons report was filed for the quartet, initiating a thorough search by law enforcement in the wooded area.
Helicopters, Coast Guard personnel, and mountain rescue teams joined the search effort.
After forty-eight hours of intensive searching since their disappearance was reported, authorities discovered the bodies of the four teenagers. They were found inside an overturned car, partially submerged in water.
A police spokesperson commented, “At this time, it seems to be a tragic accident, and our hearts go out to the families and friends of the four young men during this incredibly challenging period.”
The vehicle carrying the boys appears to have veered off the road in the village of Gareg.
Understandably, their families were devastated.
Crystal, Owen’s mother, penned a poignant message on Facebook. “I feel like I’m trapped in a nightmare I desperately wish to awaken from,” she expressed. She went on to share that she would be temporarily closing her business, as the thought of continuing without her son, whom she’ll never see again, makes work impossible.
Crystal revealed that Owen had intended to spend the night at a friend’s house, unaware of the boys’ camping trip. She emphasized that she would have forbidden him from going had she known about their plans due to the harsh winter conditions.
Lisa Corfield, the mother of Henderson’s girlfriend, shed light on the boys’ camping experience, stating, “They aren’t seasoned campers. It was their first time there. They were just going for the night, with only basic camping gear—a tent and sleeping bags.”
Sharing a photo of her daughter with Henderson on Facebook, she described him as a “kind-hearted young man” who treated her daughter with the utmost respect, embodying the qualities every parent hopes for in their child’s partner.
During this period of mourning, an outpouring of condolences flooded in for the families of the boys. Struggling with profound grief, these families are still grappling with the reality of their sons’ untimely demise, seeking answers amidst their heartache.
We extend our deepest condolences for these tragic losses.
